Train the Trainer is a trainer/instructor development course designed to meet the minimum requirements set by the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development of Ontario for their common core training programs. Train the Trainer is essential for individuals who engage in training and instructing others, regardless of business type or industry.

 

Learning Objectives

  • Apply adult learning principles to various training situations
  • Develop sound learning objectives
  • Develop content material that address the learning objectives
  • Identify learning activities that are consistent with both the learning objectives and content material
  • Recognize appropriate delivery mediums
  • Apply presentation techniques
  • Improve and practice group facilitation skills
  • Apply evaluation techniques

 

Course Benefits

Adult Learning: Discuss adult learning principles, identify characteristics of adult learners, acknowledge cultural differences, deal with uneven educational backgrounds and/or experience, and generate participant involvement

Designing Training: Determine learning objectives by carrying out a job/task analysis, develop detailed session/lesson plans taking into consideration the use of government legislation, company standards, other applicable standards and manufacturer specifications and ensure the designed program meets the needs of the job/task analysis

Presentation Skills: Use instructional and audio/visual aids, apply effective communication skills with individuals and groups, practice active listening, recognize positive body language, apply methods for conducting ‘hands-on’ field training

Facilitation Skills: Generate group participation, maintain classroom control, dealing with participant reaction and behaviour, evaluate self and group as training progresses, address housekeeping / administrative controls

Putting It All Together: Demonstrate delivery of material by applying presentation, facilitation, and communication skills.

Evaluation Techniques: Provide feedback, conduct demonstration of skills test, and testing and auditing

This course is highly participative and has nine (9) specific exercises. Each participant will prepare and perform a one-on-one training activity as well as a 7 – 10 minute class presentation.
