The Pre- Early Childhood Education (Pre-ECE) micro-credential offering provides students with an introduction to child development, early years pedagogy, childcare legislation, and much more.

Micro-Credentials Offered
This micro-credential course provides students with a brief introduction to child development and the importance of the early years.
This course is designed for students in a pre-apprenticeship program who are interested in studying early childhood education and want to gain knowledge about the development of children and the importance of the early years.
Students will review the theories of development, including:
- prenatal development and possible complications
- stages of development from birth to early adolescence
- the developmental domains

This micro-credential provides students with a brief introduction to How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years and Child Care.
This course is designed for students in a pre-apprenticeship program who demonstrate an interest in studying how to support children and families in the early years.
Students will explore how to implement curriculum and pedagogy while working within the 4 Foundations of well-being, expression, belonging and engagement.
Students will also begin to practice skills necessary in the process of pedagogical documentation. They will also examine the importance of building relationships and will engage in reflective practice, reflecting on their own personal biases that could affect their interactions while working with children and families.

This micro-credential introduces the Early Childhood Educators profession, covering the sector’s code of ethics, standards of practice, professionalism, and the importance of continuous professional learning.
Learners will explore the role of a Registered Early Childhood Educator, the differences between regulated and unregulated childcare settings in Ontario, and the necessary licensing requirements.
The course also emphasizes the development of a personal professional teaching philosophy and a tailored portfolio while highlighting advocacy skills for children’s rights.
Additionally, learners will examine the College of Early Childhood Educators’ Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, discussing ethical responsibilities, ethical dilemmas, and decision-making through case scenarios to enhance their understanding of professionalism in the field.

This micro-credential provides students with a brief introduction to skills needed to become an effective communicator and explore the importance of teamwork in the field of early childhood education.
This course is designed for students in a pre-apprenticeship program, interested in discussing the importance of relationships and examining various communication strategies before engaging in simulations used to practice these skills.

This micro-credential provides students with a brief introduction to working with children and youth who display various categories of exceptionality.
This course is designed for students in a pre-apprenticeship program demonstrating an interest in studying exceptionalities for the first time It is expected that students will acquire knowledge of the inclusive approach and legislation, the importance of partnerships, the role of the early childhood educator as well as the process of early identification.
A preview of strategies that can be used when working with children in an inclusive environment will also be presented for reflection.
