Post-Secondary Preparation
Academic Upgrading
Academic Upgrading can help you obtain the pre-requisites for college programs or obtain an ACE certificate for grade 12 equivalency. Upgrading can assist you in acquiring job-specific skills, improving computer and communications skills, and developing time and project management skills while helping you to become a better, more confident learner.
School-College-Work Initiative
The School-College-Work Initiative (SCWI) is a co-operative effort with a mandate to assist in creating a seamless transition for students from secondary school to college. Attend college classes, experience life at Northern College and earn your final credits towards your Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) that are transferrable to your college diploma or apprenticeship certification.
General Arts & Science
The General Arts and Science program is an alternative to the high school victory lap and is designed to help you make an informed decision about your post-secondary program and career choice. While learning in different areas of study while working toward a college certificate or diploma, you can earn credits that may be transferable to other college or university programs.
Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees
This program can provide you with the opportunity to study subject areas relevant to health career programs at Northern College and affiliate partners and instill an appreciation of the professional roles, responsibilities and academic requirements of health care disciplines. The goal of the program is to prepare individuals for their chosen health career program. Completing both semesters of this program will provide the prerequisites for entry into the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Practical Nursing, and Paramedic programs.
College Vocational
This is a job-readiness and post-secondary readiness program designed to meet the unique educational or vocational needs of people who would not normally consider or qualify for entry into a traditional post-secondary program. This program is also for individuals with complex disabilities who require one-on-one intervention or continuous access to technology in order to benefit from academic studies.
