If you are teaching via Blackboard Collaborate, that means you will be using the college’s web conferencing/virtual classroom to host and support your classes. Blackboard Collaborate is much like Centra. It is built directly into your online Blackboard course and is accessible 24/7/365. If you have scheduled classes you will enter your virtual classroom at the prescribed time and your students will join remotely to access the class. You may also use the service to host tutorials, assist students one-on-one, or to provide students with access to online office hours.
Any classroom with computer/audio capabilities can be set up for Bb Collaborate classes. Students have automatic access to Bb Collaborate sessions through their Blackboard Learn accounts. Bookings can be done in advance or on an as-needed basis. Professors can teach a Bb Collaborate class from any location (including your own home!)with quality high-speed internet access. If you have never taught using e-classroom technology, you will want to take the time to go through the training modules. Once your Blackboard courses have been assigned to your profile, you will be to go into the virtual classroom environment and practice the skills you learned throughout the training.
At any time you are welcome to participate in the live orientation and training sessions typically held in late August and early January. These sessions are facilitated by a member of the Learning Excellence and Orientation Department and provide a comprehensive overview of the network and software used in distance learning.
