Authentic assessments are needed now more than ever because they can positively impact student engagement, decrease academic integrity violations, and teach students how to deal with an ambiguous and uncertain world. This session defines authentic assessments, considers the importance of rooting authentic assessment in the teaching self, and provides practical guidance for constructing more authentic assessments using the five-dimension framework for authentic assessments. Moving towards more authentic assessment approaches presents challenges, however, and this session concludes by discussing some of the challenges involved in moving towards more authentic assessment approaches.
