Fall 2024 Intake: StudyInsured

Starting Fall 2024, international student health insurance coverage will be through StudyInsured.

The ‘Explore Canada’ student plan covers basic and emergency health care.

Visit www.studyinsured.com/northerncollege for detailed information on coverage and submitting a claim.

Coverage for registered students begins when you arrive in Canada, up to 30 days prior to the start of the semester.

However, the insurance certificate will not be issued until the beginning of October.

  • Early October for the Fall intake,
  • Early February for the Winter intake, or
  • Early June for the Summer intake.

The StudyInsured team is also available to answer questions at studentteam@studyinsured.com or toll-free at 1-855-649-4182.

Visit StudyInsured Website

Please note:

  • Pre-Existing Conditions: There is a 90-day stability period. Any sickness, injury or medical condition that was not stable in the 90 days prior to the effective date of the policy will not be covered by the insurance.
  • Family Members: Family members are not covered under the student health plan. Students with families may purchase additional health insurance for their immediate family members residing in Canada. The plan for immediate family members is identical to the student plan. The rate of the family member premium may be higher than the student plan.
  • Emergency Medical Assistance: Using emergency services at the hospital for non-emergency/routine health issues may result in your claim being denied. Should this happen, you will be solely responsible for paying the hospital, which may be very expensive. In the case of a medical emergency and you do require emergency care at the hospital, it is the student’s responsibility to ensure that StudyInsured Assistance is contacted by them or someone on their behalf within 48 hours regarding any Emergency Medical Assistance. If StudyInsured Assistance is not contacted within 48 hours, benefits under this policy may be limited. They can be contacted by emailing studentteam@studyinsured.com or by calling 1-855-649-4182 (toll-free).

Prior to Fall 2024: MorCare

Prior to September 2024, health coverage for international students is through Morcare.

Every international student whose study status is full-time “registered” or “enrolled” (or who have received the “CoR” letter) will be insured by the Morcare International Student Insurance plan (mandatory), which is equivalent to OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan).

For more information and to access your account, please visit https://morcare.ca/.

Coverage includes mental health counselling with WeConnect.

Important Information for Opt-Out: All full-time registered students are automatically enrolled in the student Health and Dental Plan. To opt-out of our benefits, you can do so online as long as you have coverage by another provider.

Insurance coverage begins 30 days before the start of the semester.

You will be able to download your international insurance certificate at the end of the first month of your first semester via https://morcare.ca/your-space

You will be required to pay any medical bills out of pocket before you receive your health insurance certificate. These medical expenses can be claimed for reimbursement through your Morcare account once it is activated. Be sure to keep your receipts.

Please note:

  • The insurance premium is charged each academic year (the previous September 1st to August 31st next year) and is not prorated for Winter and Spring intake students.
  • Family Insurance: You may select the family plan within 30 days of the effective date of your insurance plan. The family plan will not be accepted if the member does not opt in their family within the 30-day period.
