Important Notes:
- Pre-Existing Conditions: There is a 90-day stability period. Any sickness, injury, or medical condition that was not stable in the 90 days prior to the effective date of the policy will not be covered.
- Family Members: Family members are not automatically covered under the student’s health plan. All people in Canada require health insurance and it is strongly suggested that students make health insurance arrangements for any accompanying family members as soon as possible. Students joined by parents, a spouse, or dependent children, have the choice to purchase the Explore Canada Plan directly from StudyInsured™ so long as the applicants are under the age of 70 and live at the same residential address as the student. The plan for family members is identical to the student plan, but the premium may be higher. Please visit www.studyinsured.com/northerncollegefamily to enrol your eligible family members. Other than parents, spouses, or dependents, other family members (siblings, cousins, etc) are not eligible and will need to purchase a Visitors to Canada insurance plan. StudyInsured™ provides an option to buy a Visitors to Canada insurance plan at www.studyinsured.com/northerncollege under the menu title Products.
- Emergency Medical Assistance: Using emergency services at the hospital for non-emergency or routine health issues may result in your claim being denied Should this happen, you will be solely responsible for paying the hospital, which may be very expensive. In the case of a medical emergency where you do require emergency care at the hospital, it is the student’s responsibility to ensure that StudyInsured Assistance is contacted by them or someone on their behalf within 48 hours regarding any emergency medical assistance. If StudyInsured™ Assistance is not contacted within 48 hours, benefits under this policy may be limited. They can be contacted by emailing studentassist@studyinsured.com or by calling 1-866-883-9787 (toll-free).
