TIMMINS, ON:  Northern College is pleased to announce a nine per cent increase in domestic student enrolment for the 2024 academic year.

“Enrolment growth is very exciting news for us,” stated Mitch Dumas, Northern College President & CEO. “Now more than ever, having new learners stay in the north, or come to our region of Ontario is essential to the growth and health of our communities, businesses and industries.”

Northern College has witnessed increases in domestic enrolment to key programs like Social Service Worker (18 per cent), Veterinary Technician (13 per cent), Practical Nursing (12 per cent), Collaborative Nursing (11 per cent), Addictions and Mental Health Worker (9 per cent), Paramedic (8 per cent) and Electrical Engineering Technician (7 per cent).

All areas in desperate need of skilled professionals.

“We work diligently to create programs, in partnership with the needs of our community and industry partners, that produce work ready graduates who can make an immediate impact in their chosen field,” stated Dean Lessard, Senior Vice President Academic at Northern. “We believe we provide a unique learning environment that fosters success and excellence for our students, where they are supported every step of the way, and enrolment growth shows that we have something truly special to offer.”

At Northern, supporting students isn’t an abstract concept, in the Fall 2024 semester, Northern College and its Foundation have issued at total of $714,249 to 526 students at all four of its campus, an increase of $150,000 from last fall.

“Three times a year we get this opportunity to celebrate our students and their accomplishments,” stated Nicole Gingras, External Relations Office for Northern. “Last year we were able to issue over $2 million in scholarships, bursaries and awards. We could not do that without the generosity and contributions of donors who believe in our students and do more than their part to help foster success.”
