Northern College Hosts Dr. Temple Grandin for Speaking Engagements

Northern College is pleased to welcome renowned academic and animal behaviorist, Dr. Temple Grandin, to its Haileybury Campus for two speaking engagements.

Dr. Grandin is well-known as an animal behaviorist, noted for her work on the humane treatment and slaughter of livestock, publishing 60 peer-reviewed papers on subjects within the field.

Professor Grandin, a professor of Animal Science at Colorado State University, is also known for her advocacy for Autism, publishing several books on the subject over the past 40 years.

“We are incredibly pleased to welcome Dr. Grandin to our Haileybury Campus for these talks,” stated Mitch Dumas, President & CEO of Northern College. “The work that she has completed in her field as well as her efforts to raise Autism awareness is incredibly noteworthy and we feel honored to have her speak at one of our campuses.”

Dr. Grandin will be making a presentation to over 60 Veterinary Technician educators from across the province during her time at Northern, offering valuable insight and information rooted in her considerable experience in the field.

In her presentation, ‘Great Minds Are Not All The Same,’ Dr. Grandin will discuss visual thinkers and offer new approaches for educating, parenting, employing, and collaborating with special minds and visual thinkers.

“This is very exciting for all of us at Northern College and the Haileybury Campus,” stated Doug Clark, Dean of Sciences at Northern College. “The opportunity to learn from such a world class speaker visiting our corner of northern Ontario is a great benefit to our students, staff, graduates and community partners.”

Dr. Grandin will speak to the public at the Northern College Haileybury Campus Gymnasium on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at 7:30 p.m. The in-person event is currently at capacity, but those interested in hearing from Dr. Grandin are free to join the event digitally via this link.
