Northern College Begins Construction on New Downtown Timmins Facility
Timmins, Ontario – Northern College is pleased to announce construction on its new Downtown Timmins facility has begun, which will house employment services, academic programming and additional offerings tailored to community needs.
“We are proud to be expanding our locations to include Downtown Timmins and increasing our presence here,” stated Vice-Chair of the Northern College Board of Governors, Jeff Molyneaux. “We continue to meet broader educational, and employment needs across our community in such ways.”
The new storefront facility will be located in the Michael J. J. Doody Centre of Excellence building. The current facility will undergo extensive renovations to create a tailored, innovative learning environment and inclusive safe space for learners and job seekers.
“We are very pleased and proud to be located at this downtown Timmins facility to meet the needs of our growing community,” stated Northern College President and CEO, Dr. Audrey J. Penner. “This location will allow for easy access to flexible and agile program delivery here, including in-classroom and experiential training, employment, and a wide array of life-enriching activities. We continue to support community members in their learning and employment journeys and overcome barriers to entry.”
At this location, there will be easy access to public transit and other services, as well as businesses within the downtown core that already serve the community. This will all serve to help Northern College create a positive and invigorating Northern experience across the region.
“Northern College’s new campus will not only contribute to the revitalization of Timmins’ downtown, but is an example of how Northern College understands the needs of our community and meets that demand with relevant programming and services,” stated Timmins Mayor Michelle Boileau. “The location of the campus is central to public transportation, our public library, museum and cultural space, and is placed near to organizations like Timmins Economic Development Corporation (TEDC) and the Timmins Police Service. With the addition of the Northern College campus, the area will become a hub for education and community services in Timmins.”
Northern College continues to concentrate on creating open and supportive learning environments that allow students from anywhere in the world to meet, connect and cultivate lasting change.
